As you maybe aware there is an increase of the dengue epidemic in Sri Lanka, we are arguably facing the worst outbreak in recent times with over 300 deaths reported recently. Government and other organizations have scaled up efforts, both government and private hospitals are overflowing with patients. It is being mentioned that the number of dengue patients are topping 100,000. Early detection and treatment save lives when infections are severe, particularly for young children. However the main reason for increase in dengue could be associated to the monsoon rain and floods which caused stagnant water and rain-soaked rotting trash around the country which resulted as the perfect breeding place for Dengue mosquitoes. Most number of Dengue cases are reported from in and around Colombo.
Death to Dengue Initiative
Death to dengue was the result of an initiative by Mr Talavou Alailima Founder & Managing Director of Power World Gyms. The campaign is a clarion call to all citizens to join hands with their neighbourhoods to clean up breeding spots on the 5th and 6th of August 2017.
How can you help?
All citizens to connect with their neighbours and rid their neighborhood of breeding spots. There will be a tactical task force available in North Colombo on the 5th and South Colombo on the 6th. The Working committee and neighborhood teams are to inform of any large bearing spots via the specially developed app downloaded via android play store. Any such sites reported will be attended by the tactical task force and cleaned up.
