I am guessing most of you are thinking “I am just trying to come into grips with linkedin for recruitment, what in the world can Instagram do?”. Well instagram is a different animal, it has over 700 million users worldwide and growing. Facebook, the owning company of Instagram reports that users under the age of 25 and below spend a whopping 32 minutes on ave per day on the platform. Instagram is fast growing among the urban youth in Sri Lanka with approx 180,000 active users aged 25 and below. It is a noteworthy observation that this group of younger “Instagrammers” are very rarely active on other platforms such as facebook let alone linkedin.
Should you use Instagram for recruitment?
The majority of Instagram users are at different stages of the career selection journey. Most of them are yet undecided and at a stage where they can be influenced. Instagrammers take peer endorsements and thought provoking subtle advertising very seriously and would make subconscious decisions on career path based on their observations. Given that career-path-thoughts start at an early age in this particular demography, it should probably play a part in your recruitment arsenal if you are looking to recruit the young urban individual looking to start their career.
How can you use Instagram for recruitment?
There is no tested method to the madness, however in my opinion you could do the following. Create a Instagram presence which showcases likemindedness and the culture of the organization. This should be done in a semi corporate fashion. Also create unique adverts that are over-the-top creative showcasing the career path that the organization could provide.
