Technology seems to be moving at light speed lately, and all this innovative technology only seems to be proving to make our lives easier. I’m sure everyone is well aware of Google Assistant and its massive capabilities, slowly pushing Siri off her throne.
For those who don’t know, Google Assistant is a virtual assistant developed by Google, primarily available on mobile and smart phone devices and is able to engage in two-way conversations.
Google didn’t want to stop there, instead they took it a step further and recently at the I/O 2018 Conference, CEO Sundar Pichai introduced a new show-stopping technology, in the not too distant future, where the Google Assistant would actually be able to make phone calls on your behalf. Now that impressed me because I can see myself using that facility to make most of my appointments.
CEO Sundar Pichai introduced this facility as Google Duplex, and it really seemed like some next level AI technology, but the real exciting part was when the Google Assistant placed a phone call to a hair salon.
Google Assistant sounded very real, so real in fact, that the lady at the other end couldn’t pick up that this was not a human voice. Google Assistant was able to understand conversational nuances, knew how to be clear about the appointment dates and what really made me smile was the super casual “mmhmmm” dropped early in the conversation when asked to hold.
I’ve shared the video so you can see what I’m talking about. Google is really changing the world and this is just one step towards something impactful.
